7 Reasons Why You Many Need Peltor Tactical Hearing Protection For Your Ears

From time to time we get inquiries from our readers about which Peltor Tactical headset we recommend for their individual needs. Consider the following e-mail from one of our readers:

“Need some help. Recently diagnosed with Meniere’s disease and am deaf in other ear. I just purchased a bio-cros hearing aid so i am hearing from both ears now. My problem is that I work in a factory which is loud and requires hearing protection.

When wearing plain muffs i cannot hear anything as with plugs. I need protection along with being able to communicate with others while working. I’m looking for electronic muffs that i may be able to hear voices yet block the other harmful noises.

My hearing aids are the above the ear type and looking to find muffs that will work with them. Would any of your ear-muffs work for my needs? Could you recommend something?”

Of course we can’t fully recommend a particular headset to a user and say that is the perfect headset for them because it may not be. There are many factors that could come into play when trying to find the headset that fits you comfortably and meets your needs the best.

For the sake of us being honest, a Peltor headset may not be the right one for you. You might find that a Howard Leight, a Champion, or a Caldwell headset may be just what may fit you and your needs better. You just have to do a little searching and test what will suit you better. We’ve recently created a post called the “The Best in Electronic Hearing Protection: Ultimate Earmuff Guide” – which may help you find the right earmuff for you.

But you came here to find out the main 7 reasons why you may need a Peltor Tactical headset in order to protect your hearing during your shooting sessions. From lowest priority to top priority here you go:

Reason #7 – You Need Hearing Protection at Your Job

As the e-mail above pointed it out, the reader mainly needed ear muffs to protect him while he worked at his job. He needed the hearing protection while at the same time being able to communicate with others. This of course points out the fact that electronic hearing protection is not only suitable for shooting, but can also work just as good for noisy working environments.

The best option for him would definitely be electronic hearing protection, which the Tactical series by Peltor is mainly known for. If this is your case then I would recommend the Peltor SV Tactical Pro Headset mainly because this baby has a long lasting battery life of 1000 hours which will be more than enough for him. At the same time, the headsets provide very good cushioning to help him stay comfortable during long work hours.

Of course these headsets are top of the line when it comes to hearing protection and hearing amplification. This set provides hearing protection of up to 82 decibels within 2 milliseconds and amplification up to 18 decibels of low level sounds which will definitely do the trick depending if your situation matched our reader’s situation above.

Reason #6 – You Are Not Sure if Electronic Hearing Protection is Right for You

The main question to ask yourself whether you need hearing protection at the shooting range or at your job is, ‘Do I need to hear the quieter noises around me or not’? If your answer to this question is yes then a Peltor Tactical earmuff might be what you need.

With most of these tactical headsets the hearing amplification ranges between 15 decibels and 25 decibels which is more than enough to be able to not only hear the people around you that your talking too, but even low level sounds from a distance that you wouldn’t normally pick up with your regular hearing.

Reason #5 – You are Not Happy With Your Current Electronic Hearing Protector’s Battery Life

Long battery life for an electronic hearing protector is a must for any user whether they are shooting, hunting, or just need them because of the noisy environment they are constantly exposed to. Think about if you had to constantly replace the batteries in your unit every 3 to 4 hours of constant use. That certainly wouldn’t be efficient or fun.

Most of the tactical headsets by Peltor provide at least 500 hours of battery life even if it’s in constant use. The Tactical Pro Headset comes with an amazing 1000 hours of battery life. Not only does Peltor provide long battery life for their headsets, but also provide auto shut off features in order to conserve battery life even more.

Reason #4 – You Need Headsets that Are Extremely Portable

One of the nice things about having an electronic pair of hearing protectors today is the fact that you can easily carry them wherever you go. Peltor has gone great lengths to make sure their headsets are not only nice fitting physically on your head, but that they can easily be carried and toted without having to take up precious space in your carrying case for your other important outdoor items.

Most Peltor headsets fold nicely into themselves almost like in a ball type of look and can easily be carried around in a bag or even in your hands.

Reason #3 – You Want Complete Control of How Sound Comes Through Your Headsets

Another nice feature with Peltor headsets is the fact that the user has complete control of the sound coming right through them. Most of their electronic models such as the Tactical 6S comes equipped with volume controls. The 6S for example, has individual volume controls for each ear cup which allows for you to adjust the volume to the proper level for each ear. This is useful for people who suffer from hearing loss from just one ear.

Some of the other models have only one volume control which amplifies or decreases the volume for both ear cups at the same time. Only you would know what would be best for you, but having that option to control your volume levels is a plus when it comes to electronic hearing protection.

Reason#2 – Your Current Hearing Protectors Don’t Allow You to Hear Conversations

Until electronic hearing protectors started being used, most of us had to settle for regular earmuffs. These worked pretty decently in muffling dangerous noise, such as gunfire at the range, but it would also muffle noise out that you needed to hear as well, such as other people’s conversations.

With electronic hearing protection not only are dangerous noises well suppressed, but low-level noises such as other people’s voices are nicely amplified. This allows you to hear the world around you in true stereo sound while you are wearing your headsets. Peltor does a great job in both suppressing sound while at the same time amplifying important sound to your ears.

Reason #1 – You are Dissatisfied With the Level of Protection From Your Current Earmuffs

There are many choices out there in hearing protection, electronic and standard hearing protectors, the choice is yours. Since there are so many choices it is easy to get lost in the fog of the options that hearing protectors come with. There are many good standard and electronic protectors on the market with both advantages and disadvantages.

Depending on your hearing protection needs, Peltor has designed headsets that meet the sound suppression requirements for most users. One of their best options is the Tactical Pro headset with up to a whopping 82db sound protection.

Another thing to consider is the quickness of the suppression of sound. When dangerous noise starts the headset has to respond quickly in order to suppress the dangerous noise. Most Peltor headsets do this in just a few milliseconds which is lightning fast.

There you have it, the 7 reasons why you may need a Peltor Tactical headset. Ultimately, it’s your decision on what headset you will purchase, but only purchase what will best suit your hearing protection needs, your comfort needs, and it’s not out of your budget. You will want your earmuffs to last you a long time so take your time and do your research in order to obtain the set that’s right for you.
