The Ultimate Howard Leight Sync 1030110 Review – 2024

"I love shooting guns. Not at people or animals, but I love shooting blanks!" - Maggie Q

The Howard Leight by Honeywell Sync Stereo MP3 Earmuff

The Howard Leight 1030110 Sync Noise-blocking Earmuff is among the most satisfactory earmuffs. They incorporate a fresh DJ design with the ear cups joined by a headband with the pattern of a diamond.

This sleek appearance makes them attractive as they look more like stereo headphones than a safety device for blocking out low to medium harmful noise. The use of this gadget goes beyond auditory protection as it can also be used for listening to music.

This product from Howard Leight is only available in one color -black- with some metal and plastic components complementing the appearance.

You can view the current price of the Howard Leight Sync on Amazon.com below:

Sound Features, Sound Quality, Noise Reduction & Comfort

The Howard Leight Sync Stereo earmuffs are designed to block out hazardous noise offering protection to the ear. This comfortable product is light in weight and has soft pads on the acoustical ear-cups to increase the comfort of the user.

A noise reduction rating of 25dB allows you to enjoy consistent hearing protection by minimizing the severity of harmful sounds generated by machinery.

The Howard Leight Sync’s come with a 3.5mm audio jack as well as an audio cable to plug into an iPod or a smartphone. The cable has a standard size of 6ft, but it can be replaced with a longer one for people who are taller. This makes the Sync’s not only offer hearing protection, but also be functional as an audio headset.

The volume management technology controls the emission of sound from a portable audio device to a maximum of 82dB. This feature makes it safe to use them to listen to audio while blocking out harmful noise all at the same time. Regulating the sound from the auxiliary device prevents damage to the ear.

Other Features Of Interest

The HL Syncs are considered plug n play earmuffs that do not require batteries or other energy sources. The connected audio device controls the volume, song selection and power of the headphones.

For this reason, the Sync does not have knobs and switches. This makes them less prone to damage hence increasing durability. They are commonly referred to as semi-electrical because they run on stored electrical energy from the connected devices.

The Howard Leight Sync offers excellent sound quality, contrary to other stereo earmuffs. The technological advancements of the ear cup allow bass enhancement which improves the Sync experience.

The sound production is at par with stereo headphones making the dual-function product well worth the price.

The Pros Of The Howard Leight Sync (1030110)

The earmuffs do not completely block out sound. They cancel out excess noise, but you can still hear enough sound thus making you conscious of your surroundings.

This in itself is not a bad thing to be conscientious of your surroundings like people talking or cars , but would definitely not be good at an indoor gun range where gun shots are really loud.

Of course, turning on music would block out all the external interruption; especially the noise my kids make while they are gaming or jumping around the house.

Another pro is that the cushion pads on the ear cups are removable. This makes it easier to clean the earmuffs and to replace them if they get worn out.

They also possess reinforced fork slides which make it possible to adjust the headband to the desired size. The headphone jack makes it possible to disconnect the chord at will. This is necessary when you are only using the earmuffs to cancel out unwanted noise.

The Cons Of The Howard Leight Sync (1030110)

The Howard Leight Sync unfortunately has it’s cons as well. After an extended use of these muffs one of our main complaints is that since the headband is so sturdy it makes it uncomfortable to have the earmuffs on for an extended period of time.

The discomfort unfortunately limits the use of the earmuffs for short events such as target practice. If you wear the Sync several times for a considerable amount of time, the band will ease up, and they will be more comfortable.

We didn’t personally experience this ourselves, but many customers have complained about the audio cable falling out of the headphone jack very easily. One of the users on Amazon.com has found a fix for this and you can refer to this link for the fix.

Another issue that is very possible just looking and feeling the device is that the need to replace the internal wiring may arise sooner than later. Don’t plan on this headset to be a long investment, but no device lasts forever, right? At least it is not an expensive headset.

Overall & Final Thoughts

Generally, many customers have approved the product due to their ability to block out unwanted or potentially harmful noise while giving the option to listen to your music on your portable device.

The Howard Leight Sync’s also make it easy to achieve concentration by canceling out distracting sounds no matter the task at hand. They offer excellent protection for your ears during industrial processes and shooting sessions.

Although, I wouldn’t put these exactly in par with a pair of Peltor Tactical 500 or Howard Leight Impact Sport, but they do a good enough job especially if your needeing a pair of earmuffs in a pinch.
